Eclipse Energy UK PLC was founded in February 1999 by energy sector professionals with extensive senior managerial and technical experience. Through this previous experience, Eclipse has extremely good working knowledge of the offshore energy sector, working environment, regulatory background and contracting industry. It has used this knowledge base to establish an appropriate contractor support base for its activities both in the wind and gas business.

Eclipse is the first energy company to transfer offshore Oil & Gas Exploration & Production business disciplines, experience and technology to promote commercial development of offshore wind energy. Eclipse Energy is an unquoted private company with circa 90 shareholders comprising management and a significant proportion of shareholders being knowledgeable, energy sector professionals or companies.

Eclipse Energy secured seed funding through a private share offering, fully compliant with Financial Services Act Regulations and Public Offer of Securities Regulations in April 2000. Later In February 2004 a successful rights issue was completed. In early 2005 Eclipse raised just under £5m in an institutional fund raising round led by Oriel Securities.

Energy for the future
Great Britain is now facing an ‘energy gap’. For the first time in our recent history we consume more energy than we are able to produce. Over the next 20 years our natural gas reserves will become depleted and we will become increasingly dependent upon imported energy. It is therefore vital that we explore the opportunities for producing energy from renewable sources and that we maximise recovery of the nation’s indigenous energy. We believe that wind power can play a key role by producing electricity from a clean, free, abundant and inexhaustible resource.

Our projects are dominated by wind power but the Ormonde Project will also generate electricity from two small gas fields, Ormonde North and Ormonde South. The combined development of the wind and gas fields in this way enables infrastructure and operating costs to be shared. In this way energy is recovered more efficiently from the offshore natural resources. Our project demonstrates a unique and efficient way to harness significant volumes of sustainable, low-carbon energy through the co-development of gas and wind energy.
